Senator W A Clark Paned for Colors in Old West Tale
In a tale from his private car journey to California Senator W A Clark stops with two placer miners near Bannack and pans for gold. He cooks flapjacks and trout in a one room cabin, leaves a $20 gold piece for each miner, and recalls teaching school in Missouri while sharing frontier memories. He also notes his punctuality and ties to old mining days. A recipe suggests marinated avocado and ham as an appetizer.

Wild Flood Irrigation Described as Cheapest But Inefficient
Montana irrigation expert O W Monson of the Bozeman Experiment Station says wild flooding is the simplest and cheapest form of flood irrigation though crude and wasteful. It can temporarily aid level hay or pasture land but causes water logging and soil erosion on sloped ground and risks crop losses from poor, wasteful application. Free copies of the Montana Extension bulletin detailing nine irrigation methods are available from county agents or the Bozeman Extension Service.
