Judge Poindexter and Mrs Poindexter will be honored with a public reception on Saturday evening April 7 at 7:30 in the city hall auditorium. The Poindexters arrive today from Helena and will spend a week in the city visiting with relatives and friends before leaving for the Hawaiian Islands.
The Poindexter family invites the public to a reception as Judge Poin dexter prepares to take his duties as district judge in the Hawaiian Islands. Hundreds are expected to attend among the county’s friends.
At one o clock yesterday morning Walter Thomas Rebich eleven months died at home from measles followed by pneumonia. The funeral was held today at two o clock. Earlier Rose Platt infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Platt died after a brief illness at their north town home. Her funeral was held from the Catholic church this afternoon.
Households notice lower egg prices with fresh eggs in Dillon at 35 cents a dozen. The piece urges housewives to preserve eggs for winter using water glass or silicate of soda, noting the upcoming rise to 60 cents or more for stored eggs.
The method calls for one part water to ten parts of a water glass solution. A gallon of this solution preserves six dozen eggs when stored in a sealed airtight receptacle to prevent evaporation.
A letter from the State Bank of Idaho Falls to Security State Bank notes Rogers Brothers an eastern seed firm with seed pea ventures in Idaho and potential Beaverhead county operations. The firm is described as reliable with strong backing and profitable earnings while two Rogers Brothers representatives survey local growing conditions and express interest.
J D Kennedy of Dubois Idaho buys the Melrose ranch long run by Hample and Fisher. The transfer includes 5 300 head of sheep and about 500 acres of land with cultivated portions. Kennedy and family plan to move to Melrose to take possession next week.
J H Gilbert was re elected mayor and C P Thomas re elected treasurer with L P Phillips as police magistrate. Ernest Orr and Al Anderson won in the fourth ward. W A Graeter re elected in the second. C C Bond in the third. Tom Luebben and Roscoe Cornell elected in the first ward. Total votes under 200 with no contests.
Last Monday morning Samuel Arndts opened his new hardware store in the remodeled Pastime theatre building. The shop offers shelf and heavy hardware and farming implements and reflects Arndts extensive experience in the hardware trade.
A Dillon patriots rally drew over two thousand residents for a grand patriotic demonstration. The event featured speeches by Dr. Monroe and Judge Smith, a marching parade including Grand Army and Spanish-American War veterans, and an open Navy and Army recruiting effort leading to several enlistments among Dillon youths and high school students. George Baker and Hank Wyatt led the first enlistments in the Second Montana regiment.
The funeral for James Cornelious was conducted Friday afternoon at E. H. Brundage parlors in Dillon by Rev. Lee Young. Interment followed at Mountain View cemetery. He was about 57 and had lived in Dillon about ten years. The coroner's inquest found death caused by lung and heart trouble, from his death at home last Tuesday evening.
The Beaverhead County High School junior class will stage The Maker of Dreams on the thirteenth of this month directed by Miss Hunter. Proceeds benefit the junior class with special numbers by the Glee club adding to the entertainment.
The Short Line offers Easter rates to Butte with sale on Thursday Friday and Sunday and Monday. Round trip fare is 2.80 dollars and valid through Tuesday night. Students and concertgoers to the New York Symphony concert in Butte on April 9 can use the rate.
The board of county commissioners adjourned after their regular monthly session. They inspected the Wise River road, built under state highway commission supervision by convict labor, and reported rapid progress. A special meeting last week awarded road machinery contracts.
J H Gilbert, re elected mayor of Dillon last Monday, greets his newborn son aged three days born in Chicago. The baby, named John Henry Junior, is the city’s first born. The mayor’s assistant helps manage city affairs as the child settles in. Mother and baby are reported doing nicely.
Last Thursday Frank Smith and Bradley Osborn were picked up for agitating a movement against American citizens enlisting in the U S army and navy. They were each given 30 days in jail with a floater at the end of the time. If they do not take the floater they will be dealt with severely. The officers here will not tolerate the idler class and they will be picked up as soon as they fight in the city and will be given heavy jobs in the county jail on plain bread and water.
The new Security State bank welcomed visitors last Saturday with a reception. Crowds toured the modern interior, viewed the Ely Norris Manard manganese steel safe, and enjoyed punch served by Misses Ellen Nelson and Ethel Smith. The bank began operations Monday with C. F. Thornton as president, Pearl I. Smith as vice president, and C. F. Bailey as cashier. directors include Thornton, Smith, Bailey, Dr. Ryburn, and Nels Nelson.
Wm. P. Barton representing several Salt Lake City coal firms spoke in Dillon about railcar and labor shortages delaying orders. He urged consumers to place coal orders now to ensure delivery before winter, noting Dillon faces the same nationwide difficulties but is comparatively better off.
Easter observances planned with sunrise prayer at 7 and Sunday school at 9 50 led by Prof. Robt Clark. At 11 the Easter service includes chorus music and a sermon by Pastor H G Humphrey with Odd Fellows in attendance. Evening program at 7 30 features student recitations songs and exercises. Easter offering for missions collected by classes. Everyone welcome.
The St James Church Easter program lists processional hymns and anthems for 11 am with hymns Welcome Happy Morning Angels Roll the Rock Away and Hark Ten Thousand Voices Sounding plus hymns Jesus Christ Is Risen Today and He Is Risen. A sermon and offertory sentences are included with Gloria in Excelsis and Nunc Dimittis among the music.
Easter Sunday at 7 30 p m features a special Sunday school program inviting parents families and neighbors to attend and support the Sunday school. Everyone welcome.
A caucus at the Normal training school chose Leonard Eliel for three years, Miss Jean Bishop for one year, and A. L. Badeon for one year. G. T. Paul retires from the board. The election will be held next Saturday at the training school.
Commissioners appointed E. W. Kramer from the forestry department Oliver Ruffner the county surveyor and W H Chapman the city engineer to supervise the construction of dams in the Rattie snake water shed.
