Montana Licenses Lawyers At Five Dollar Annual Fee
The Montana legislature enacted a license tax requiring every attorney admitted to practice to pay five dollars per year starting April 1 1917. The Clerk of the Supreme Court will issue a certificate upon payment. Practice denied to those who fail to pay and risk a misdemeanor with fines up to twenty five dollars.

Pioneer Dies at Bedrock Dillon Funeral Held
John William Bell a 89 year old pioneer of southern county died at Eph Peterson’s home above Redrock after several years of illness. Native of Virginia who came to Montana in 1883, he ranched and mined here. Survived by several children including Mrs. Arthur Butte and Mrs McIntosh of Jackson. Funeral conducted Monday by Rev H G Humphrey at Brundage parlors.

C E Blinn plans a new Standard Lumber and Coal Company in Dillon with seven purchased lots on North Montana and North Idaho streets. The yard will include fuel and coal service, storage warehouses along the railroad, and first class lumber buildings. Opening planned for early April under Blinn’s management.

Dillon caucus names Gilbert mayor in large turnout
In Dillon a record crowd backed a citizen caucus selecting mayor Gilbert, treasurer candidates, and six aldermen. Gilbert led with 189 votes to Nelson’s 122. Nelson urged acclamation if defeated. Treasurer race favored Thomas in two-round tally, with Newnes and Leimert dropped after first round.

Cowboy Husbands Requested by East Coast Suitor
Miss Gladys Smith of Elkhart Indiana writes the Dillon postmaster seeking a western husband. She declares a western fever and urges the postmaster to select a cowboy suitor, offering a photo and promising happiness if chosen. Postmaster Poindexter forwarded the appeal to an Examiner reporter as local sowboys may respond.

Katherine Moore Taken to Warm Springs Asylum
Last Saturday Judge W A Clark ordered committment to the asylum for the insane and the woman was taken to Warm Springs Sunday by Sheriff Wyman. Moore had priorly killed her husband with an axe at Bannack and was twice in and out of mental health treatment before a 60 day jail sentence and recent assault on a doctor and deputy. Miss Ethel Jones of Dillon visits her parents in Twin Bridges.

Beav erhead Sheepman Charged With Grand Larceny
Otto Schultz swore out a warrant for Elza Bryan on charges of grand larceny alleging possession of 77 head of sheep belonging to the plaintiff. Bryan posted $2,000 bond with E. B. Roe and Dan Grant and pled not guilty in district court yesterday. Both men are prominent sheepmen in the lower Big Hole region and Beaverhead and Madison counties.

Ditty Buys Big Ranch From Sam Clarke
George Ditty, noted rancher and horse dealer, purchased the old Reet and Hollingsworth ranch of about 900 acres for $25,000. The historic property, once owned by Van Camp, lies in a prime cattle and horse feeding area with hay and grain production. Ditty will run the ranch in connection with his livestock business.

Two Newborns Reported in Michigan Idaho and Montana Areas
A baby boy was born to the wife of County Attorney W G Gilbert in Michigan this month. On the same day Prof Frank Gnaghney and wife welcomed a son at Nampa Idaho. The Gnagnhes are known in Dillon with the husband teaching at the high school and the wife a Thomas daughter from Dillon. A baby girl arrived last week to Mr and Mrs Edgar Ferris. On March 21 a daughter joined Mr and Mrs W E Maddox in Whitehall, Maddox having once run the local creamery.

Five Hundred Horses Sold At Montana Sale
The March horse sale last Friday and Saturday sold about 500 head, averaging near $100 a head for total receipts around $50,000. Thousands of cattle and sheep will be grazed on national forest reserves this summer as applications surge. Beav erhead forest reports 24 500 cattle and 115 000 sheep requested. 12 000 cattle and 50 000 sheep may be rejected. Applications up due to the 640 acre homestead act and cattle industry growth. Stockmen fall into three classes A B C with A priority for small owners dependent on the forest ranges.
