In Fargo yesterday Judge Amidon sentenced Sheriff Andrew A. Taylor of Rolette to a $2500 fine and six months in Cass County jail for permitting prisoner escapes and falsifying accounts. Deputy Marshals Schindler and Hurat pleaded guilty to false accounts. Schindler received five years hard labor, Hurst two years. Markey and McElroy, bootleggers from Benson County, were fined $200 and ninety days jail.
A youth under twenty spent the summer farming near Devils Lake then arrived in Minot with $100 and woke up in county jail penniless after a spree. He claimed to give his money to Policeman Ed Robinson, who denies receipt. He was jailed five days. A second description notes a heart broken wife, former Reid hotel worker, who left with her money to build a shack but spent it in drunkenness and asked forgiveness.
The XIX Century club of Devils Lake joins the Herald piano contest as its members push for a piano by gathering votes. The sockey leads the list just behind the top spot and needs about 100 more votes to reach it, with the F. L. D. club of Cando contributing notable energy to the effort.
