New sheriff's residence and jail accepted in Ramsey county

Ramsey County officials approved the new sheriff's residence and jail after over two years of work. The modern, fireproof building features eight cells on the first floor, an elegant sheriff’s office with a vault, tiled floors, and electric lighting. Architect Gillespie of Fargo called it the finest such facility in North Dakota, possibly Minnesota.

Mrs McGraw Dies in Grand Forks

Mrs McGraw wife of Col W H McGraw died at home in Grand Forks on Sunday evening after a year long battle with cancer. The family of Devils Lake and Ramsey County mourns a devoted mother of two sons William and LeRoy and daughter Nellie. Funeral was held Tuesday at the Catholic church with burial at Memorial Park. Ramsey County friends attended.

Farmers line signals cropland outlook improves

President Jos Kelly reports crop conditions ahead of the Farmers line are much better than earlier estimates. East of the line wheat may yield 15 to 20 bushels per acre, with good weather ripening the grain. west of the line prospects drop to eight to ten bushels. Late grain is improving and a large hay crop of timothy clover and grasses already hayed, promising higher future prices.

Northwestern Land Show to Run in St Paul Auditorium

Old Settler Henry Barnshier Dies at 74 in Churchs Ferry

Henry Barnshier, an early settler of the district, died Tuesday morning at Churchs Ferry. He was 74, born and married in Germany, survived by his wife, six children, 26 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Funeral held at the English Lutheran Church with Rev. The sixth annual meeting of the Home Investment Co at the Commercial club reported satisfactory results. Manager Ole Scrumgard’s report was approved showing solid business and a four cent dividend. City Dads Hold Special Session on Bonds and Theatre License

The city fathers met to canvass votes on bonds for a $10,000 city hall project and a $25,000 refund issue at 5 percent. Bid by T L Birseken for the hall bonds and Minnesota Loan and Trust for the refund bonds were accepted. A license to operate the new Charles Theatre was granted amid mixed votes with three nayes.

Attorney General Miller Tours Devils Lake After Prolific Summer

Attorney General Miller visited Devils Lake from Lakota after the Sperry case and a rest at Fish Lake. He has prosecuted two famous cases this summer, the Reilly murder in Langdon and the Sperry murder in Aneta. He plans to handle the coal rate retrial for Northern Pacific Soo and Milwaukee lines, with evidence to be taken in Minneapolis in August, as the state defends a lignite coal rate law challenged as confiscatory.
