Destin City Council refused to accept public lands from Okaloosa County until promised work at Joe's Bayou is completed. County promised to repair a boat ramp and build a finger dock, a project overdue by about nine months, prompting fears the land transfer would stall the work.
A Green Knight lounge and nearby liquor store host donation bowls for repairing the hurricane battered guardian statue that has stood for 17 years. A spokeswoman reports about 200 dollars raised so far and invites public participation while noting the repair will be quite expensive.
Okaloosa County Commission reduced proposed budget by 500000 during a Monday night meeting but maintained a higher tax burden. The millage rate dropped from 367 to 347 mills, still a 3.6 percent increase from the current 335. Cuts targeted 433000 from debt service and contingency funds and 67000 from capital outlay with commissioners Anders and Brunson proposing further reductions.
