Capella scales to wartime role as fast sealift ship
The USS Capella, a 946-foot Fast Sealift Support vessel based near Okaloosa Island, joins the Military Sealift Command after conversion from the former Sealand McLean. In Bald Eagle 85 training, officials note Capella’s roll-on roll-off capacity, carrying 122 battle tanks, 180 helicopters, and 387 wheeled vehicles, enabling rapid deployment of Army equipment and personnel.
