Meridian's Bill Smylie weighed a 47 pound 14 ounce King aboard Prime Time, challenging the Rodeo record but short of the 60 4 ounce mark. Fort Walton Beach’s Jim Gledhill claimed second with a 40 12 ounce King on Silver Bullet while Destin’s Robert Binkley topped the charter boat division with 32 4 ounce King aboard Lady Kand. Offshore, Destin's Trow Sebree Sr led with a 51 6 ounce White Marlin on Road Runner, edged by Jackie Arnold's 51 4 ounce White Marlin on Pescador III. Young David Drotleff of Fort Walton Beach landed a Billfish, later identified as a Sailfish or White Marlin, weighing 37 pounds, while his 40 minute battle drew cheers at Rodeo Dock.
