Four swimmers nearly drown at Henderson Beach area

At Henderson Beach State Recreational Area four swimmers faced danger from undertow on Thursday. J L Phillips 48 of Cookville Tennessee was pulled from the water by beachgoers and treated by firefighters and paramedics around 2 50 p m. A second swimmer required aid about a mile down the beach. Charlotte Lee 15 of Marion Arkansas was out of the water by the time responders arrived. About twenty minutes later Gordon Johnson 48 of Chalmette Louisiana was pulled from the gulf on a surfboard by Sloan Smith 21 of Tampa.

Airport Open Planes Will Fly On Limited Basis

Okaloosa County Commission allows Destin Airport to stay open during a two week runway resurfacing. FAA approval enables a 40 foot wide taxiway to serve as a runway for daylight landings by single engine prop planes under 12 500 pounds with restrictions around construction equipment and lunch hour slots. A complete closure will occur Monday for taxiway painting.
