Gas fees subsidize city charges, Destin residents pay too

Destin residents help cover franchise fees charged by six cities on Okaloosa Gas, though Destin itself receives no benefits. The company treats fees as an operating expense and spreads them across its service area, with about 1.5 percent charged to gas sold in each area. Hobo Vessel Rescued Near Destin East Jetty

The 20,000-pound fiberglass sailing craft Hobo, owned by Richard and Myrna Daley of Davenport Iowa, drifted toward rocks at Destin's east jetty Friday night. The Destin Coast Guard Station, with police and local agencies, used four-wheel drives to keep the boat off the rocks as the captain mistook the jetty layout for the west jetty. The crew reported the vessel hugged light number two and was guided away from danger.

Okaloosa Tourism Council replaces three ineligible members

Okaloosa County's Tourist Development Council quickly replaced three members after discovering they were ineligible. Bill Abbott and George Bull were not registered voters in the county and Art Bogan had no business ties to tourism.
