Office To Close For Thanksgiving Holiday

The Destin Log office will close on Thanksgiving Day to allow staff to celebrate with families. It will reopen at 8 a.m. Friday November 29.

Thanksgiving services across Destin area churches this week

Destin churches held multiple Thanksgiving services with more planned today and tomorrow. St. Rita Church hosts a 7 p.m. service at the Santa Rosa Beach Community Center with pastors from South Walton churches. Safe Harbor Presbyterian invites the public to a November 28 service at the corner Road and Mair Street for a community gathering.

Chamber Seeks Transportation Authority for White Point Bridge

The Destin Chamber of Commerce urged the state Legislature to create a transportation authority for Okaloosa and Walton counties to implement DOT findings on the White Point Piney Point bridge. The group tied rationale to the governor’s Resource Management Plan and cited studies praising the site as the most logical cost effective and ecologically sound north south crossing. City leaders welcomed the move as showing local support for the mid day crossing as other groups were to be invited to join.

Nine named to Okaloosa tourism panel to study bed tax plan

Okaloosa County Commissioners appointed three members from Destin, Fort Walton Beach and Okaloosa Island to form a Tourist Development Council. The panel will draft a plan for a bed tax to fund tourist projects, determine district boundaries, and present a voter referendum.

Insurance Salesman Charged in Destin Senior Consumer Case

The Florida Department of Insurance filed an administrative complaint against Robert Neal Gilbert, an insurance agent and Fort Walton Beach resident, over sales to Destin seniors in August. He allegedly called Old Southern Life Insurance Company financially unstable while pushing a Medicare supplement policy to Evalyne and Harley Rigdon and urged them to drop Old Southern for his Atlantic American policy.
