Destin Airport Runway Closed Over December Resurfacing
Okaloosa County Airports Manager Coy Thomason reported FAA reluctance to approve using the adjacent taxiway as an auxiliary landing strip during a two week, 454000 dollar runway resurfacing in December. He said safety concerns and heavier aircraft justify closing the 5000 foot runway and keeping taxiways unused. Local attorney Lloyd Blue urged reconsideration arguing December is busy for real estate closings and asking Sen Lawton Chiles to press FAA for a decision.
