County Board OKs Gas Tax for Okaloosa County

Okaloosa County Commissioners unanimously approved a 5 cent per gallon local option gas tax and laid out a plan to spend about 3 million dollars annually. The first two cents would replace ad valorem tax funds in the Road Department budget, the third cent funds road projects, and the fourth and fifth cents would support toll-bridge costs with potential multiple projects. The measure follows a request from the Mid Bay Bridge Authority seeking revenue to back bonds for a White Point to Piney Point bridge, with tolls to repay the bonds and a possible secondary revenue source.
