Destin approves third deputy contract with county
Destin City Council on Monday approved a contract with Okaloosa County Sheriff for a third deputy. Deputy Donavan 27 from Fort Walton Beach becomes the city’s newest deputy and began work Tuesday. Kinney will focus on traffic enforcement and city ordinances. Annual cost for all three deputies is about 74,701 dollars. Council also budgeted roughly 3,500 dollars to buy a patrol car for Kinney.

Advertising Seminar For Businesses In Destin

District seeks three permits for Old Pass Lagoon pipeline
The Northwest Florida Water Management District filed requests with the state DEP, the U S Army Corps of Engineers and the state DNR to build a Gulf outfall pipeline for Sandpiper Cove. The plan envisions a 600 foot offshore line and a 35 foot easement across Holiday Isle to pump Gulf water into the lagoon, with preliminary costs estimated at 1.3 to 1.7 million dollars.

DWU raises sewer rates by two dollars per unit
Destin Water Users customers will see a two dollar per unit increase on January bills as the DWU board approves the hike after reviewing two budgets. General Manager Erik Smith cites two major projects that improve effluent quality and meet DER standards, driving higher costs. Couple's 5143 Mile Sea Voyage Reaches Destin Harbor
Retired seaman Captain Al Bonasoro and Mills Williams completed a 5143 mile river lake and ocean loop from the Keys to Canada and back aboard the 34 foot Pelagic. They traveled from Islamorada to Norfolk to New York and through the Hudson, Great Lakes, locks and rivers before returning to the Gulf near Mobile.
