Hospital Hopefuls Urge Destin Facility At Public Hearing

Humana Inc and Destin Medical Center officials urged a local acute care hospital for Destin citing isolation and travel times to General Hospital in Fort Walton Beach. Doctors argued a 50 bed facility on Airport Road could meet a 45 minute target, while Humana promoted a satellite setup to share resources with General Hospital. The HRS will decide by November 28.

Isle Group Seeks Pollution Evidence in Pending DOT Suit

The Holiday Isle Improvement Association board agreed to meet with a Florida State University researcher to pursue evidence for a pending lawsuit against the state Department of Transportation over Destin Harbor water degradation. They may expand defendants to include other polluters and plan a beautification master plan costing 1750. The board elected Jack Becklund president and discussed traffic safety improvements on Highway 98 plus better illumination near Shoreline Towers.
