VA hospital chances rise for Okaloosa County
U S Rep Earl Hutto says VA administrator Harry Walter’s decision not to buy Providence Hospital in Mobile boosts the Panhandle’s odds for a VA hospital in Okaloosa County. He cites demographics and a VA study predicting need, but notes no final VA siting decision date.

Destin Drug Case Not Closed Says Federal Prosecutor
U S assistant attorney Stephen Preisser said the Destin cocaine case is not over and will see further indictments. Lee Ramsey and Mark Bellamy were found guilty of conspiracy to import cocaine and related charges, while Richard Harris was acquitted on some counts. The trial tied to a fatal cocaine overdose by Eric Winter in Okaloosa Island and a Cessna 421 flight tied to South America. Preisser noted doubts about Harris verdicts but praised the Ramsey and Bellamy verdicts as fair. Okaloosa County still faces an unresolved murder case there.
