Turbeville cites wastewater issue delaying highway project
Turbeville noted Couch Construction Co of Dothan continues subbase work on the project. The main obstacle is a Destin Water Users percolation pond on the west end that dumps wastewater into the DOT stormwater system and Old Pass Lagoon. DOT and Couch remain unable to agree on prices to modify the project to intercept and reroute the wastewater.

Destin Council Adopts Interim Budget for 1985
The Destin City Council approved an interim budget for fiscal year 1985 on Monday. It plans six new hires including a building inspector and a zoning administrator, plus purchase of a city vehicle. The $232,540 budget covers salaries, operations, public safety, and capital outlay with a reserve of $82,287. Revenue includes a $250,000 bank credit line. $7,867.50 had been received in state grants, police fines, gifts, and donations through May 6.

Gas Tax Fails In Destin County Vote After Referendum Call
Okaloosa County commissioners rejected a proposed local option gasoline tax 4-1. Chairman Bill Peebles Jr. warned the public would vote it down if put to referendum. County Seeks Over $1 Million Delinquent Taxes
Okaloosa County plans a June 3 tax sale on about 2 500 parcels with overdue taxes. Bidders will buy certificates that place a lien and pay the county, with the delinquent owners able to redeem within two years. Destin accounts for about a quarter of taxes, and roughly 25 percent of the owed amount stems there.
