Court Ruling Raises Okaloosa Sheriff Budget
Okaloosa County Sheriff Larry Gilbert seeks a record 5.9 million dollar budget, over 2.6 million more than last year, citing growing demands and a new Supreme Court ruling disallowing compensatory time off for overtime. He earmarks 194,688 for overtime amid unclear Department of Labor rules and projects potential 10,000 overtime hours annually. Bay County reports 20,000 overtime hours. Walton County data unavailable. Gilbert warns the ruling will impose a large fiscal impact on governments and taxpayers.
