An Alabama angler aboard the Sunrise with Capt Kelly reported the season’s first Cobra a 34 pounder. The mate said another Cob ia weighed in Friday southeast of bar in deep water. Duke’s fish was caught during the Cobra Tournament on April 30.
More than 400 licensed amateur radio operators in Okaloosa County and hundreds from the Southeast will attend the 17th Annual North Florida HAM/Snapfest at the Fort Walton Beach Fairgrounds on March 21 and 22. Hams from the Panhandle participate in this regional event hosted by the Playground Amateur Radio group.
The week-long effort to improve Destin ends with city hall contact 837-4242 for trash bags and cleanup location assignments. Residents use the campaign to discard old appliances and unwanted items. Florida marine patrol investigates the shooting death of a bottlenose dolphin found ensnared in a fishing net in Choctawhatchee Bay between Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon. Officers say the animal was shot in the head up to nine times with a .22 rifle. A second dolphin carcass was reported offshore from the U S Army Rest Camp on Benning Drive.
The Destin Log offers a 500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever shot and killed a bottlenose dolphin in Choctawhatchee. Publisher Jack Becklund denounces the act and urges tips to the Florida Marine Patrol or The Log.
Okaloosa County health officials say AIDS risk is not high locally but those worried about transfusion exposure can test locally. The American Red Cross offers confidential AIDS testing at Humana Hospital Fort Walton for $10, covering hospital transfusions before March 1985. Results mailed in about two weeks.
