A columnist muses on spring signals and yard work, forecast tides, and the start of an annual condominium development issue due April 14 with advertising due April 9. It rambles through politics, media focus, Beirut, and a tale of a thoroughbred boat mast loss and recovery, ending with a Canary Islands resting note.
A reader replies to a Destin Log article criticizing its apology. The letter defends longtime winter visitors and local merchants, urges healing of community wounds, and laments misrepresentation by Horace S. McClemore. It emphasizes the value of snowbirds to Destin, stresses unity, and notes local driving and political comments need context.
Editorial praises the Florida DOT and local residents for canceling seven lanes on Highway 98 and expanding medians while removing on street parking. It warns merchants about parking loss and questions protest procedures on the relocation bid. Readers urged to send letter opinions to the Destin LOG.
The author discusses crowd counting methods for events and coastal destinations, critiquing past formulas at Daytona Beach and the Gator Bowl. He notes a local “floating population” gauge ranging from 2000 to 13000 and proposes a tongue in cheek computation using shop seats, checkout times, license plates, seafood market crowds, and Gulf wave effects.
