Destin Moves Toward Citywide Red Clay Ordinance
Destin Planning and Zoning Commission moved toward a draft citywide red clay ordinance after council support. A public hearing is planned for April 18, with two readings at regular council meetings. The measure allows certain materials and tightens color requirements near U.S. 98 and Choctawhatchee Bay.

Panel weighs two sites for city recreation complex
The Recreation Committee studies two 15 acre parcels to house a comprehensive sports complex including baseball softball football and soccer. Sibert Avenue Benn ing Drive near Destin Airport is priced at about 15 000 per acre and may be negotiated while the airport parcel owned by Kelly Trust has no estimated cost. Members favor the Sibert Benning site but lighting near the airport site raises concern. In the meantime a wooded 12 to 15 acre area adjacent to Destin Elementary School owned by the Okaloosa County School Board could be cleared to provide immediate practice space, at an estimated clearing cost of 3000, with meetings planned with the school board.
