County Eyes Road Tax Tradeoffs Amid Overload of Projects
Okaloosa County commissioners face an overload of road and bridge projects and may delay endorsing a 4-cent local option gas tax until a Legislature decision on a 1-cent local option sales tax for roads. If the penny sales tax passes, commissioners favor evaluating more alternatives. The state authorized local gas taxes in 1983 and 32 of 67 counties have adopted the option. Public input will be sought before any decision.
