City of Destin weighs taking over airport operations
At a Thursday Airport meeting Dan Bergan outlined revenue and costs of Destin Airport. County currently runs the airport and proposed city control would require funding for future repairs. FAA reviews runway resurfacing plans at an estimated 765000 dollars. Last year the airport paid 78000 to the Federal Development fund 42000 to the county general fund and 34200 to the DOT.

Destin Eyes Revenue Funds Either by Lawsuit or Tax Hikes
City of Destin weighs three options to qualify for state revenue sharing in 1985. Department of Revenue general counsel Bill Townsend says chances are slim, suggesting a lawsuit as only recourse. DWU Gets OK To Issue Taps
Destin Water Users gain permission to release about 600 sewer taps held under a consent order with the state Department of Environmental Regulation. The taps go to prepaid holders who have requested taps in 1985, with roughly 500 requests noted. Release is effective now as negotiations on an alternative effluent disposal system proceed.

From the Heart Bigelow’s pioneering pacemaker and deep freeze surgery
Dr Bill Bigelow, born in Manitoba, recalls frostbite cases that spurred his early study of heart interventions. In 1947 at Johns Hopkins he met Blalock, before open heart surgery existed, then proposed cooling the whole body to stop circulation and shrink oxygen needs. He returned to Toronto to pursue hypothermia research for three years, challenging then conventional ideas.
