Roads panel backs easements and water plan for south counties
Destin resident Malcolm Patterson who chairs the water subcommittee said surface water should be considered to supply water to the south counties rather than drilling wells that could invite saltwater intrusion. The subcommittee’s concurrent recommendation envisions studying Eglin fields and the Freeport well field simultaneously. Bannerman withdrew his amendment as the full committee unanimously accepted the subcommittee’s recommendations.

Waste plan eyed for six month study and program costs
McLean said the county may start a two phase study within six months. Phase I would cost 2000 to list issues. Phase II would design a solid waste program costing 5600 with ordinances rates and franchise plans. The county would also get advisory help for 2000 later. In other action the board approved six dwelling complexes and granted a variance for Seaside on State Road 30-A to operate a four wheel drive vehicle on the beach.
