Joe's Bayou Test Sought By Panel Over Algae Bloom
The Waterways Committee on Wednesday asked the Northwest Florida Water Management District to test Kellfire Lake and the marsh near Destin Water Users’ ponds for nitrogen phosphorus and metals. They suspect percolation ponds contribute to the algae bloom affecting Joe’s Bayou, which supports 80 percent of sport and commercial fish development per a Department of Natural Resources study. The city also considers coordinating with Dr Skip Livingston’s 18 man Choctawhatchee Bay study.
