Bridge to Destin Niceville Bay Crossing Might Cost Less
A Tallahassee designer and a governor’s coastal panel member say a three mile bay bridge from Piney Point in Destin to White Point near Niceville could be built for about half the Florida DOT estimate. North Carolina’s Albemarle Sound example at 3.4 miles costs 22.3 million, suggesting cheaper design and construction may apply to the Choctawhatchee Bay span.

Destin Council Approves Mayor Land Subdivision Plan
Destin City Council reversed a Planning and Zoning Commission denial to preliminarily approve Mayor Bob McIlroy and John Richard Miller’s 3.4acre Calhoun Avenue plot for a seven lot subdivision. The 4-3 vote followed P and Z objections over a 20-foot right of way and 10-foot paved road, with safety and access concerns cited by officials and residents about garbage and fire truck turnarounds. The controversy centered on whether interior lots could be landlocked if front property owners later cut off access, and whether the road could be considered private to avoid required standards.
