State Department of Transportation releases a drawing outlining traffic flow along U S Highway 98 through Destin after medians are installed. The plan shows lane allocations, turn lanes, and signal placements aimed at reducing congestion and improving safety for commuters and visitors.
An informal meeting with state officials and Destin leaders led to a state commitment to extend sidewalks on the north side of U S 98 and to consider additional traffic signals along the corridor. The plan would widen the road to six lanes west of Destin while preserving the existing four through Destin and removing on street parking.
Destin Fire District commissioners and Destin Community Center directors will hold a joint 7 p.m. meeting at the fire station on Stahlman Avenue to discuss the lease of the district property. Center directors expanded the lease to four more years at $1 annually but seek review at expiration amid concerns over future costs. Fire board chairman Zack Brunson said the goal is to reach a workable proposal and avoid costly renegotiations while preserving taxpayer interests.

Oscar was housed in a condo bathroom before warming up and will be released back to the wild when conditions improve. In a separate town tale a cat trapped in Legion Village clubhouse walls was freed after a week missing. The owners reported the cat skinnier but recovered quickly.
