Destin Council Set to Award Two Contracts Monday

Destin City Council will award contracts to pave Mountain Drive and install lighting at recreational fields near Destin Elementary School. The meeting also tackles Henderson Beach Park closing, garbage pickup issues, harbor no discharge zone efforts, dock approvals, and several rezoning requests along Indian Trail and Azalea Drive.

Development Blamed For Fewer Backyard Birds Decline tied to habitat loss

A 15 year statewide study shows nearly 50 percent drop in ground dove sightings and declines among cavity nesters like cardinals bluebirds loggerhead shrikes and red headed woodpeckers as developers remove dead trees and shelter. Volunteers tracked 80 species across Florida from Panhandle to Keys. results to be published in Florida Naturalist and The Skimmer.
