Plea Denied Shahid Must Serve 35 Years in State Prison
Okaloosa County Circuit Court Judge Robert Barron denied Shahid's bid to have his 35-year double charge sentence run concurrently with a federal parole violation. Shahid testified he believed a plea bargain allowed concurrent time, while defense and prosectuors disputed that condition. Shahid, 40, was convicted in 1981 of trafficking cocaine and possession of hashish. the judge indicated the federal sentence would run parallel to the state term if federal authorities seek parole revocation. Shahid is housed at Avon Park Correctional Institution.
