Destin approves shoreline protection ordinance on final reading
Destin City Council voted 6 0 on second reading to create a shoreline protection zone from the mean high water line to 50 feet landward of the primary dune line prohibiting most building within the zone except minor structures. Landward construction remains allowed with CCCL compliance and dune restoration if within the zone. Vegetation removal is barred and permits can be suspended for noncompliance. An amendment lets owners appeal to the state DN R to build north of the CCCL.
