The Davenny Festival Quintet closed the Lyceum course on Monday evening at the school auditorium. The audience found the program mixed yet praised the ensemble as highly talented and Mrs. Davenny’s readings drew hearty applause and encores. The feature ended the season, with financials reported elsewhere and a note of lingering Lyceum spirit.

Sunday School increased by 27 last Sunday while Epworth League attendance remained strong despite a storm. Communion was offered at 11 am with three new members received into the church. Prayer meeting interest continues to grow. Bishop J H McCoy of Birmingham sends congratulations for meeting church debt obligations, urging continued duties as guidance from a higher watches over us.
The Presbyterian Sunday school has bought a fine library to influence members with good literature. Books by well known authors will suit all ages from youngest to oldest. The collection will grow with new volumes and townspeople not in any other school are invited to join and enjoy the benefits.
In St Louis, Interstate Merchants, Alan and Spring Mert, announce certificate plan rates in effect January 27 to February 4, February 10 to 18, and February 24 to March. Apply to B. Ford, ticket agent, for further particulars.
The Dermott Board of Trade held its regular monthly meeting at the Chicot Hotel with President C. Helmstetter presiding. County Judge E. P. Toney spoke on Good Roads, bridges, and the proposed county highway, while committees were formed to handle homecoming funds for Co. K and efforts against the levee bill, and to seek railway side track removal on Front Street.
A meeting at Blount & Moss on Feb 2 organized the Bartholomew Loan Association of Dermott under the Federal Farm Loan Act. Members enrolled include Chas Skipper, H E Blount, T B Feezer, W P Daniels, L Bartmess, B V Evans, P O Bynum, P E Lambert, E G Hammock, W H Lephiew, and W E Blount. Officers: President E G Hammock, Vice President H B E Blount Lee, Treasurer G A Franklin. Territorial limits cover Drew and Ashley Counties west of the Mississippi River, Hamburg and Western Railroad, and parts of Chicot County. next meeting Feb 10 at Blount & Moss.
