Dermott scenes include hardware ads, furniture requests, and farm goods with Orr's and Belser Dishough firms. Local visits feature J C Douglass, J C Grubb, and Mra N C Denson among others while Red Cross drives and Liberty Loan notices unfold. Community events, sales, and church actions fill the week with school and Y M C A fund efforts.
Henry Bordeaux reports the National Editorial Association will stop in Dermott on Tuesday June 11 from 12 to 2 PM. An at door luncheon is planned at Arkansas et to 1 PM with band music and talks by prominent editors. The group includes representatives from nearly all newspapers in the United States and is expected to be several trains from various states.
Eight men from Chicot County are summoned to report for duty next week. Three are from Dermott: Charles Measel, Beryl Evans, BR. G. Wilkes. They must report May 2 at Jackson Barracks New Orleans. Phil Anderson registered in Desha County must report tomorrow at Arkansas City. Evans Dishough fills his Dermott Bank post.
BE P Remley of Dermott Liberty Loan Committee relays a challenge from E T Cashion to Lake Village and Dermott to over-subscribe county quota. Cashion notes Chicot County Third Liberty Loan needs 151 000. Dermott reports 47 000 with 571 subscribers. Lake Village 342 000. Kadora reports 52 subscribers. County and city must exceed census population shares to earn Treasury honor flag. Remley and Trotter respond ready to take 600 subscribers if offer stands, noting Lake Village may win county honor.
President Wilson designates April 26 for Liberty Dar gatherings urging public pledge of financial support to the Third Liberty loan. Land Sell-a-Brate TM adopted as slogan by local Sales Organization in district.
The city warns all Dermott premises owners to clear rubbish within ten days or the city will clean the properties and bill the owners. Free rubbish haulage will be provided to those unable to pay. Signed by J A Thompson M D the city physician on Apr 25.
Dermott Land and Lumber Co advertises blocks cut from construction timber at 25 cents per wagon load. Limited supply. claim you cannot buy them at any price next winter.
The program lists a devotional service led by Bernice Mason with the hymn From Greenlands by Mountains and a topic Africa. Scripture is Psalm 91, followed by prayer and roll call requiring a verse on God’s protecting care. A quiz Do you know and hymns Throw Out The Life Line precede the benediction.
