Orr Hardware Co features brooms aluminum ware and new John Deere buggies while The Novelty promotes hats and White spring designs. Dowden unloads a car of buggies and Hobson's advertises farm implements. Local residents travel, visit, or plan election activities as teachers clergy and merchants share news and upcoming events.
The U S Government will survey crop acreage in each state to detect potential shortages early. Conducted by the Food Administration, Council of Defense, and USDA, one to three canvassers per school district will collect farmer acreage lists. E P Remley oversees Bowie, Railroad and Oden Townships.
A Dermott primary school election is planned for Thursday April 25 to select two Democratic nominees for School Director. Terms of E G Hammock and M R Hanchey expire. one or both may be reelected or replaced. The role is important, with responsibility and public service but no pay. Voters are urged to choose efficient, conscientious men regardless of political considerations.
The Woman's Missionary Society met at the Methodist Church last Monday with nineteen members and one visitor. Mrs. W. W. Brush joined the group, officers reported well, juveniles discussed Korea and pledged 10 dollars, and a sick committee was formed. Plans for a Young People's Missionary Society were set, with twenty four enrolled. Next meeting led by Mrs Holland on Christian Stewardship.
Mr. W. A. Smith, an Army Y M C A secretary now in aviation, spoke in Dermott about war service. His forceful talks inspired patriots and urged Red Triangle League formation. An initial Dermott Y M C A branch enrolled 128 members and named officers: Holland chair, Sims secretary, Rolle treasurer. Franklin elected local treasurer amid county post vacancy.
Notice of a primary election to nominate two candidates for Director of the Dermott Special School District in Dermott Arkansas. Voting day is Thursday April 25 1918 with pledges due by 8 pm April 20 1918 at the mayor's office. Dermott Democratic Central Committee members CG Neilsen Harvey Parnell Henry Gaster.
An up to the minute vaudeville performance is planned for Dermott High School Auditorium on Thursday evening April 25 under Army Y M C A auspices to aid the organization Mrs Read Jackson Irion leads the program with Daniel as business manager and C M Measel as secretary and treasurer. Acts include a ladies chorus orchestra a minstrel show and the Hoover Symphony with Dermott citizens and a list of performers and children. Proceeds aid soldiers at the front and tickets cost 50 and 25 cents.
