Local ads list Orr Hardware offers brooms aluminum ware screen doors and nails while Belser Dishough & Co advertise screen wire and coffins. The issue notes Fitzsimmons items and a Backward Season Sale at Cohen's Store. Local news cover arrests for gambling, religious notices, church services, political candidacies and a republican primary result with two nominees named, plus community events and upcoming film at Allied Theatre.
Plans are underway for the Second Red Cross War Fund Campaign in Chicot County. The event runs May 20 through May 27 with Mr P Remley as county chairman and a long list of committee members from Dermott Lake Village Eudora and Readland guiding executive, publicity, state, and local campaign activities including a Ladies Division.
Yesterday Dermott schools under principal Mr Anders held a thrift and war stamps sale drive. Postmaster Leeper reported weekly sales totaling $16475 with a prize promised to the top seller. Winners and full results to be announced at the schoolhouse this morning.
All interested in Red Cross work in Dermott are requested to meet Friday night at 8 30 in the Board of Trade room at the Chicot Hotel. Matters of importance pertaining to the local chapter will be discussed by the chairman.
Attention Board of Trade members calls for action to develop Dermott Arkansas into a jobbing center and regional hub. Readers urged to attend meetings, join, and actively promote investments such as a tee plant, laundry, office buildings, and department stores to raise the town toward ten thousand residents.
A union meeting of women’s societies from local churches met Monday at the Presbyterian Church to discuss prayer. Mesdames Anders Holland Bennett and Bell read papers, Mrs Daniel played piano, Mrs Frank Etter sang, and Rev R M Holland spoke. Mrs E G Hammock presided. committees planned permanent union gatherings every fifth Monday with July 29 at the Methodist Church as the next host.
