Local ads report Orr Hardware and The Novelty selling brooms aluminum ware and hats. Dowden markets John Deere buggies and Belser Dishongh & Co offer feed and hay. Residents travel, see notices of allotments, sales, and public meetings including Sunday School rally and district visits.
The Third Liberty Loan drive in Dermott opened with whistles and a Friday rally. By Tuesday subscriptions reached 32 000 toward a 46 000 quota, with local banks expected to cover the rest. Bonds date May 1 1918 and mature Sept 1 1923 at 4 percent interest. lists individual buyers including the Dermott Bank & Trust Co and numerous residents.
At a Dermott Arkansas Democratic Central Committee meeting on April 10 1918 a resolution calls for a primary election on April 25 1918 to nominate two Democratic candidates for Dermott Special School District School Director. An old classified style notice promotes a 5c bottle of Sand claiming to aid the liver kidneys and bladder and urging readers to buy from Bor deaux drug store.
The Dermott Bank & Trust Company and the Exchange Bank & Trust Company are authorized agents of the Federal Government to sell all denominations of the Third Liberty Loan bonds. They will offer bonds to customers with options of full cash at par or ten percent down and the remaining balance in nine equal monthly payments. Payments commence on the fifteenth day of the month following purchase.
The Dermott Democratic Central Committee agrees to a primary election on April 25 to nominate school directors. The effort, led by E. G. Hammock, grants Dermott women in Chicot County full voting rights in school district matters.
Mr W A Smith, a Y M C A secretary now in U S Army Aviation Corps, will speak for the Red Triangle League at Dermott churches on Sunday April 4. He will address at 8 pm at the Methodist Church and morning at the Presbyterian Church. The talk urges war effort and support for soldiers overseas. R M Holland, Red Triangle League chairman, notes talks also planned in other county parts.
