Sunflower cultivation grows in Spencer County crops

Rockport reports three carloads of sunflowers totaling 96 073 pounds shipped from Spencer County this year netting growers 3 002 75 dollars. Alfred Haines near Richland led with 30 dollars per acre as more than three hundred acres were planted this year with a prospect of two thousand acres next season. The crop yields 1 500 to 2 000 pounds per acre and can be thrashed on ordinary equipment.

Brothers Die at the Same Hour in Distant Deaths

Otto Durre Sr of Evansville Indiana and Gustave Durre of Strassburg Alsace Lorraine died within the same hour local time on a day in December. Gustave died at 7:30 a m German time and Otto at 4:30 p m Evansville time from a sudden stroke of apoplexy. Both were born in Strassburg and were the last children of their family.

Fourty Thousand For Depositors In Indiana Bank Failure

After seven years the United States Guaranty and Fidelity Company paid Abner McAllister clerk of the Spike circuit court $39,187 in full settlement of Charles Behrens bond, former cashier of Huntingsburg People's State Bank, who died in distress. A further $12,000 against the Sitzman estate, Warrick county, was collected, bringing depositors to more than $40,300 to be distributed from funds deposited in First National Bank. The trustee Fred Pearker will distribute the proceeds to hundreds of savers who lost their deposits when the bank failed.
