Soccer Meeting Here Tonight

The Eastern Shore Soccer League will hold a meeting at the Brick Hotel tonight to lay final plans for the season beginning around October 20. State Officials will attend and all interested persons are asked to attend. First Practice Sunday Ernie Downes of the Denton club orders a 1:30 session. Players are asked to report then.

Farewell Services At Brethren Church

Farewell services were held at Ridgely Progressive Brethren Church on Sunday September 22 at 3 30 p m led by Rev S E Christensen of Georgetown Del The program featured songs by the couple and by Mrs J A Mitchell and Miss Edna Detwiler It notes former pastor H L Holsinger and Miss Vianna Detwiler who died 1921 and details their Ashland College ties The church lot sold to Pilgrim Holiness group of Ridgely after many delays Services will continue Sundays and midweek gatherings in the remodeled building.

New Voting Place For Third District

Mr. J Ed Nichols clerk to the supervisors of Elections for Caro line County announces that voting booths will move from the J Virgil Moore Funeral Home to the Community House effective immediately. O Conor Hails Large Drainage Project Near Pocomoke

Eastern Shore residents, state and University of Maryland officials join Gov. Herbert R. O Conor and Gov. Walter W. Bacon to mark the crossing of the Delaware line by excavating machinery for the Pocomoke River Drainage Project. The cooperative program, largest drainage ditch east of the Mississippi, underscores soil conservation and investment in topsoil protection.

Get Registered Next Tuesday for Maryland Election

If you are not registered you have two days to get your name on the books before voting on November 5. Registration days by law are Tuesday October 1 and Tuesday October 8. Revision Day on October 15 forbids any new registrations. If you have been marked off for not voting for five years you may register again at your district voting place if you are 21 or will be before November 6. Movers from another state may register if intent to become a Maryland citizen was filed one year prior to November 5, 1946.

KE Orme, chair of the Democratic State Central Committee for Caroline County, was told by J Millard Tawes that State candidates will visit Caroline County all day October 8. A giant Democratic Rally will be held Tuesday at 8 o clock in the Armory Denton. Caroline Democrats are invited to attend with friends. all Caroline candidates and State candidates will give stirring speeches.

Everngam Named Vice President of Denton National Bank

J L Everngam of Denton was elected vice-president of Denton National Bank to succeed the late J Percy Bittle of Ingeside. A bank director since 1940 he is the ninth VP since the bank opened in 1881. Directors include F L R Nuttle Dr Dawson O George and W Clark Quillen.

C H S Opens Soccer Season With win Over Greensboro

C H S opened the season by beating Greensboro 3 to 2 under the new rule where each goal counts one point. The game featured five goals overall, with the first at 1 48. Several regulars sat out due to scholastic standings, but the team showed promise under new coach Miss Welch and plans to play Feedralsburg in Denton Friday.

County Firemen Field Day at Preston Sunday

Caroline County Firemen's Association members from Federalsburg Preston Denton Ridgely Greensboro and Marydel will participate in a field day at Preston on Sunday afternoon October 6. Each company will send a crew and a piece of equipment to demonstrate hook-up and target accuracy. A county boys soap box derby will run on Main Street from the Post Office to Brodes' garage.

Plaza Theatre Fire Leaves Milford $250000 Loss

The Plaza Theatre on South Walnut street Milford suffered a $250000 fire that gutted the interior and threatened adjacent buildings early Monday. The 1200 seat cinema, part of the Schine chain, was at capacity for Two Guys From Milwaukee when fire alarms sounded. Fire crews from many towns pumped river water to fight the blaze, and by 3:30 am the last out-of-town units left. The theater, 25 years old and remodeled 18 years ago, housed a $20000 organ destroyed. no cause is yet determined.

WSCS Holds First Meeting of Fall

The Wo men s Society of Christian Service of Denton First Methodist Church held its first fall gathering on Tuesday evening with a covered dish supper under Mrs. Herbert McAllister. A program followed including organist Gail F. Cooper reporting on Ocean Grove Music Institute, Johnson singing Without a Song, a dramatic sketch by L. W. Bryce’s mission study book India at the Threshold, and devotionals by Edna Shipman Johnson and William Finn with notes on Peninsula Conference activities.
