Three Brothers Arrested In Tavern Death

Three Army veteran brothers, described as Negroes, were arrested after a tavern brawl at a Ridgely beer garden ended with one brother shooting Corporal Koste of the State police and killing another brother. Sheriff Sparks of Caroline County said eight or nine attackers assaulted him and Koste during the attempted arrest. Koste was hospitalized with head lacerations, the sheriff treated for facial injuries, and the prisoner fled with handcuffs dangling. Police tracked two fugitives then arrested the third along the road from Denton to Greensboro. Koste’s pistol was not recovered. The slain brother was said to have tried to mediate.
