The regular monthly meeting of officers, Board of Directors and committee chairmen of the Denton Chamber of Commerce will be held at the Fire House at 8 p.m. September 29. All members are invited to attend this meeting.
A. N. Spanel announced wage increases for all Dover plant workers at Playtex Park, including higher basic rates, boosted bonuses, and six paid holidays. The firm expanded benefits with health and life insurance paid by the company, a large plant addition, and a liberal vacation policy.
Miss Stella Williams reported for duty at the Caroline County Health Department on September 22. loaned by the United States Public Health Service for bedside nursing under the Medical Care program. She will be placed in the Denton area as the bedside program expands. Williams is a Western Reserve University graduate with prior Visiting Nurse Association experience in Cleveland. Private Addison Stanford Jr. of Denton recently left for the United States aboard the U S Army transport after service in the Philippines. General Hodges announced that he will proceed to Camp Stone Man Personnel Center in Pittsburgh California for separation after arriving in San Francisco.
The Navy announces the second nationwide College Training Program examination on December 13, 1947. Open to US high school seniors or graduates aged 17 to 21, quotas per state, with 52 NROTC units nationwide. Successful applicants receive four years of funded college, full tuition, books, fees, and $50 monthly pay, plus possible commissioning after graduation. Applications are at schools, colleges, and Navy offices. Caroline High School Principal T Conover Crouse will provide details.
The Greensboro Baseball Club travels to Denton to meet the Denton club at Sehaub Park at 2 30 p m E S T on Sunday. Manager Tom Smith aims to field a strong lineup while Denton plans to start Hughes on the mound. In other league action Hartly beat Rock Hall 4 2 in the Marvel League semifinals to advance, with Vodvarka and Carroll trading blows and Hartly’s Hummell and Graham contributing two hits each. Chestertown edged Felton 3 2 in a mound duel led by Coakley and Chambers as Chestertown seized the series opener. The semifinals resume Sunday with Felton at Chestertown in a 1 30 p m doubleheader and Hartly at Rock Hall in a 2 30 p m game, with further lineup hints and possible reserve pitchers noted.
The Town of Denton will set clocks back to standard time at 2:00 a.m. Sunday, September 28. The change will apply to all church services on that date.
The Eastern Shore Soccer League will host a free film showing at Caro Line High School auditorium in Denton on Monday September 29 at 8 o clock EST. The program features actual photos from Cup Soccer matches from last spring, courtesy of the Maryland State and District of Columbia Soccer Association and the Eastern Shore Soccer League. The Hasslinger Club, winner of the Stewart and Rowland cup, is highlighted. players, coaches and high schools are especially invited to attend.
The American Legion Auxiliary North Eastern Shore District held its quarterly meeting in Denton on September 18. Caroline Unit No. 29 hosted with 65 members from Cecil, Jeff Davis, Talbot, Kent-Queen Anne Memorial, Susquehanna, and Mason-Dixon units, offering hospitality and dinner. After reports on Child Welfare and Veteran Rehabilitation, retiring district VP W G Wilson was gifted silver spoons, and Caroline Unit President O E Roberts was named Historian elect. The next Caroline Unit meeting is October 9 at 8 p.m. with officer installation.
The appointment of Martin C. Voss of Denton as the new member of Caroline County Farmers Home Administration Committee is announced by County Supervisor Howard M. Bailey. New member took office July 1 for a three year term joining F Andrew Werner of Denton and Zeth Weaver of Greensboro, replacing Frank M. Adams.
The annual Children’s Home luncheon will be held October 2 at the Home in Easton Maryland from 11 30 a m to 2 p m A cordial invitation is extended.
Maryland Military District announces procedures for returning and burying World War II dead. Local committees formed in Baltimore and many other towns to coordinate veteran groups and render military funeral honors. Remains from Europe and Hawaii to be shipped to Philadelphia and New York, with next of kin notified by telegram and press release.
Board members of Southern States Farmers Supply Coop. invite delegates to a September 30 meeting in Seaford Delaware to elect a district director for District 6. About 17,000 former members are represented by voting delegates. H H Nuttle of Denton Md current director term ends this fall.
The Third Eastern Shore 4H Show and Sale will be at the Cattle Exchange in Denton on Wednesday October 15 starting 9:00 a.m. F M Rogers notes cooperation by nine Eastern Shore counties Farm Bureau teachers and University of Maryland Extension. Over 100 4 H entrants expected with judging by James B Outhouse UMD Animal Husbandry. sale to begin at noon with buyers from several states anticipated.

The Woman's Society of Christian Service at First Methodist Church began its year with a covered dish supper attended by about seventy-five members from all circles. President Mrs. Walter B. Palmer led the meeting as eight standing committees reported progress and plans for upcoming activities were set. Mrs. Oron Smith, assisted by nine, presented a pageant introducing the first book study "Committed Unto Us" by Dr. Willis Lamott, a noted missionary author.
