Denton Rotary Hear Probation and Parole Chief

Denton Rotary heard Maryland Federal District Court probation and parole chief Burrell Kilmer speak on federal parole work. Kilmer noted 13 percent Maryland parole violators, 42 percent national parole rate, and new steps toward uniform federal sentencing and study parole options.

Caroline County Fire Field Day Set for Next Sunday

Assignments for Caroline County firemen field day have been announced with James Moore leading Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company. The event at Cham bers Park Federalsburg will begin Sunday Sept 27 at 1 15 p m. Fire teams from multiple towns will demonstrate oil fires foam water and ladder use with a visiting Seafed Volunteer Fire Company aerial truck and master of ceremonies R J Smith.

Wesley Hymn Drama At First Church On Sunday

Ruth and Mason Willis return to Denton to inaugurate the 175th anniversary of the American Methodist Church with the music drama A Thousand Tongues To Sing at First Methodist Church on Sunday Sept 27. The program features Mrs Willis as Sarah Wesley and an 18th century organ, with audience singing six Wesleys hymns.

U S Sponsored Science Library At Local School

North Caroline High School will receive a traveling science library funded by the NSF. Principal Frank Gerhart's application to the AAAS was accepted to circulate 200 up-to-date science and math books valued at over 1100 dollars. The program, started in 1955, now serves about 1700 schools and overseas dependents schools.

Tilghman Given 18 Months In The House Of Correction

On Thursday September 17 Donald Tilghman received probation and an 18 month term in the House of Correction was invoked for a probation violation. Chief Judge J DeWeese Carter presided. In other court news William Pinder was found guilty of non support and ordered to pay weekly. William Lankford failed to appear for a written summons and was jailed temporarily while securing a $51 45 cash bond.

Ridgely Brethren Celebrate 75th Anniversary Homecoming

Ridgely Church of the Brethren marks its 75th anniversary with a full day program led by Rev. Levi K. Ziegler at 11 AM on Sunday October 25. Dinner and supper in Ridgely fire hall, 2:30 PM recollections including Rev. Rittenhouse and his wife, church history, a pageant The Call at 7:30 PM, and Amanda Fisher of Denton as arrangements chair.

The Woman's Club of Denton opens its fall meeting with a covered dish luncheon on Friday October 2 at 1 pm to celebrate the 40th anniversary. Mrs C P Merrick Named To Hospital Directorship

The Memorial Hospital at Easton announces the Sept 16 election of Mrs C P Merrick of Denton to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr A Orrell Saulsbury Jr Ridgely. She will serve until the next annual election of the Memorial Association. She has been involved with the hospital as a Junior Auxiliary member and has two children including a Dickinson College freshman.

Service Representative Appointed For Denton

Miss Peggy Ann Nichols has been appointed Service Representative for the C. P. Telephone Company of Maryland at Denton. A Federalsburg native and 1951 Federalsburg High School graduate, she began as an Easton operator in 1951 and was named Easton Business Office Service Representative in 1955 before this Denton assignment.

First Church WSCS Holds First Fall Meeting

About a hundred members and friends of the Woman's Society of Christian Service at First Methodist Church gathered for a covered dish supper and the first fall meeting in Fellowship Hall. President Mrs. C V West presided with remarks on the year ahead and a program led by Mrs Hazel B Taylor. The group announced Africa study courses, a Bargain Sale, and honored past presidents with pins while notable guests spoke on activities and upcoming events.

A planning meeting for Cub Pack 265 will be held in Fellowship Hall at First Methodist Church on Monday Sept. 28 at 7 30. Parents are invited to help organize for the year ahead. Shore Truckers Seek More Federal Funds for Shore

Eastern Shore trucking leaders pressed for a re appraisal of Federal highway fund distribution at a Maryland Motor Truck Association meeting in Ocean City. President A T Blades noted new gas tax revenue would add 814 million to Maryland, with 3 million from trucking. none yet to the Shore, which lacks interstate highways, and a small share of 9 million remaining would go to local roads. Joe Doupnik presided. Dr Murray Banks spoke. 243 officials attended the banquet and program.
