Reed Car Wins Labor Day Race At Darlington Jim Reed of Peekskill North Carolina won the 10th annual Kentucky Derby of stock car racing with a 111.836 mph average on a Chevrolet setting a new track record. Joe Weatherly of Norfolk finished second in a Thunderbird. Dick Petty of Randleman was third. The pre race favorite Glenn Roberts of Daytona Beach finished seventh after a tire blowout. The Kentucky Derby of stock car racing prize pool totaled 17 351 dollars.

Announcement by Rev. Otho G. Brewer Jr. says Hidemi Ito, a Japanese Ministerial Student at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington DC, will lead the 11 a.m. worship service. Ito, a second year student, plans to return to Japan after graduation and previously studied at Western Maryland College. He spent this summer at Camp Pecometh as teacher and advisor. First Church resumes regular fall and winter schedule with Church School at 9:45 a.m. and Morning Worship at 10 a.m.

Beef Cattle Improvement Field Day at Worton
A beef cattle improvement field day will be held at Andelot Farm near Worton Maryland on September 16. The program includes a review of the improvement program, weighing and grading calves, breeder reports, and discussion of herd bulls. Edward F.
