Denton Third DDT Spraying Planned This Year

The Denton Lions Club thanks donors for funds to spray the town with DDT a third time this year. Spraying will occur when weather allows. At the September 7 bi monthly meeting a committee was formed to study up to date telephone service in Denton. A Donkey baseball game report noted Denton Lions Club defeating the Denton Rotary Club two to one. The club supported placing sanitary trash cans at street corners in the business section in endorsement of a Chamber of Commerce program.

Seeders Named Recreation Director for Annapolis

E. R. Seeders, longtime director of boys work at South Congregational Church and Olivet Community House in Springfield Massachusetts, is named recreation director for Annapolis Maryland. He has 26 years in Boy Scout roles and holds Eagle Scout honors with his son Robert. Mrs. Seeders teaches at Center School Longmeadow.

Diamond Emblem Awarded Denton C P Employee

Three employees with 95 years of service in the telephone industry were honored with jeweled emblems. Sapphire pins went to Miss Lillian D. Phillips and Mr Geo T Parker of Salisbury for 30 years with the company. Francis A. Greaves of Denton celebrated 35 years and received a diamond emblem. All recipients are with the Eastern District Plant Department of the Telephone Company.

Caroline County Democrats Plan Campaign for Beck and Truman

Six members of the Democratic State Central Committee of Caroline County met last Thursday to organize the campaign. They pledged full support for Scott Beck Jr., the Congressional candidate, and Harry S. Truman, the Presidential candidate. Several meetings are planned before the November 2 election.

Camden-Wyoming Clinches Mar Del Pennant In Dramatic Playoff Push

Camden-Wyoming clinched the Mar Del pennant on Labor Day with a 4 to 3 win over Chestertown in 3 innings. Rock Hall, Chestertown, and Camden-Wyoming battled for second as playoff schedules tangled with venue changes and start times. Delaware defeated Maryland 4 to 3 in the Marvel League All Star Game in Dover before 700 fans.

200 Firemen Take Course At U of M

Two hundred volunteer firemen from across Maryland opened their fifteenth annual short course on fire fighting at the University of Maryland Tuesday. Governor Lane and university president Dr. C Byrd were on the program but did not appear. James W Just welcomed the group and outlined a five day schedule of lectures demonstrations and experiments. Landon Walston urged the association as a speaker. Firemen are housed in a dormitory and eat in the student cafeteria.

Beck Named Head of Kent Institution

S. Scott Beck Jr., Ches tertown native and Democratic candidate for Congress from the Eastern Shore, was named president of the Chestertown Bank of Maryland at a regu lar board meeting on Wednesday. Howard S. Leaverton of the Maryland Farm Bureau was promoted to vice presidency, a role Beck held before his election. Beck previously served as attorney for the Chestertown Bank of Maryland before joining the Navy as an Ensign and later rising to Lt Commander after Pacific combat service.

Young Man Burned To Death At Arnold Md

William H. Doran Jr., 32, of Belvedeer Beach Arnold Maryland, was burned to death last Friday morning September 3 while at the home of his workman Preston Jones who was rescued and hospitaled in Annapolis. Surviving with his parents he leaves his wife and one son two sisters and two brothers. Funeral services were held at Taylor Funeral Chapel Annapolis and burial was in the National Cemetery Baltimore with military honors. Doran had served in the U S Navy.

Stevens Attends Heating School in Kalamazoo

Mr. C. M. Stevens of Kalama zoo Sales and Service Co. Hurlock returned from Kalamazoo Michigan where he attended a week long training at the Kalamazoo Stove and Furnace Company learning the latest in warm air heating and installation techniques.

Del Mar-Va Peninsula Promotes Opportunities Banner

A publicity poster and billboard campaign titled A Land of Opportunities will promote the Del Marva Peninsula. Three 11x40 foot billboards will greet travelers at Blackbird Route 13 Matapeake and Cape Charles with a kneeling farmer image. D Ernest Matthews of Salisbury chairs the campaign.

Cook Book From Easton Hospital Auxiliary Planned

Junior Auxiliary of Easton Memorial Hospital announced a cookbook titled A Cook's Tour of the Eastern Shore with sale by November 2. Recipes were abundant. only the first submissions could be included. Funds from auxiliary events and plate rentals support hospital and nursing activities. a nurse picnic is planned.

United States Must Not Yield In Berlin Says Legion Leader

James F. Daniel Jr. told the Ocean City American Legion Convention that the U.S. must not yield in Berlin. He urged continued presence and voiced support for universal military training and Mundt Nixon legislation. Daniel joined six candidates for national commander as 7,000 delegates expected for Maryland events.

Baynard Hughes Reunion Held on Baynard Lawn

The Baynard and Hughes families held their second reunion on Sunday September 5 on the lawn of Mr. and Mrs. John Baynard Sr of Williston. A picnic lunch was shared under the trees. Many relatives from across Delaware Pennsylvania and North Carolina attended including families Baynard Harrington Hughes Buckley and Foote and others from Bridgetown Felton Springfield Boothwyn Townsend Salisbury Wilmington Greensboro and nearby areas.
