Valuable Crabs Tagged for Bay Conservation Effort

Hundreds of blue crabs released in Smith Island Maryland during the week of September 16 will carry small red tags in the white meat worth one dollar to finders. Some tags show a number others read REWARD or AT ONCE. Send tags and notes to the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory Solomons Maryland to aid scientific study on crab migration and conservation with cooperation from Virginia Maryland and the Federal Government.

Wheatley enters College of the Pacific in California

Ira Mitchell Wheatley son of Rev Melvin E Wheatley of Crisfield leaves for Stockton California to enter the College of the Pacific on September 10 after graduating with honors from Crisfield High School class of 1947 He plans to pursue ministry training in the West and the East with boarding at the college and lodging with his brother the Stockton pastor.

All Traffic Must Stop For School Busses

Maryland motorists must stop at least 10 feet from a stopped school bus and remain stopped until it proceeds. Police statewide are enforcing the stop law as schools reopen. Also noting T5 Skinner, Hillsboro native, recently left Japan for U S duties with the Famous First Cavalry in Tokyo Yokohoma area occupation forces. Skinner, formerly a Tri- County High School student and Eloy Lumber clerk, entered the army in April 1946 and trained at Aberdeen Proving Grounds before overseas duty in November 1946.

Mrs Flora Cooper Succumbs At Home

Mrs Flora Roberta Cooper 69 wife of Harry S Cooper died at her home near Greensboro on Wednesday September 3 after a lengthy illness. Born in Antwerp Ohio she lived most of her life in Caroline county. Surviving with her husband are three sons and three daughters. Funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the late home with interment in Denton cemetery.

Truck Overturns On Denton Causeway

A refrigerated tractor-trailer from the 151 Line overturned on the Denton causeway early last Wednesday. The tractor was badly damaged and the driver cut and bruised. The trailer was wrecked, requiring several hours to right and clear debris.

Denton Rotary Appeals For Shorter Easton Route

Denton Rotarians and local businessmen urge completion of the shorter Denton Easton road before winter. A letter dated Aug 30 to the Maryland State Roads Commission cites delays in steel piling for the New Bridge over the Tuckahoe River, delaying access between Caroline and Talbot Counties. The group asks the commission to secure piling so four miles of road in Talbot County and a quarter mile in Caroline County can be surfaced, shrinking the distance between the county seats from 22 to 16 miles.

Denton man Leland T Short dies after short illness

Funeral services were held for Leland Truitt Short 54 former Denton postmaster and Republican State Central Committee member who died Monday in Prince George Hospital Cheverly Maryland. He was a marble yard partner with his father and later ran the monument business. He survived by his wife Martha Beck and two children from a former marriage Ivy Dale Short and Leland T Short Jr along with two brothers and two sisters. His first wife Ivy Dale Townsend had died earlier.

Mr Arters Sculley Buried Here Tuesday

Funeral services for Arters Samuel Sculley 55 of Marcus Hook Pa were held at Moore Funeral Home Denton and burial followed in Denton Cemetery. He died in a Chester Pa hospital last Friday August 29 after a weeklong illness and months of frail health. He was a son of the late John W Sculley and Mrs Sculley. He is survived by two brothers and two sisters John W Sculley Jr of Ridgely Charles Sculley of Baltimore Mrs William Pinder of Marcus Hook and Mrs William Cohee of Denton.
