Redmond has been named chairman of a special committee to present the annual P T A Harvest Festival. Denton P T A shows strong start with all committee chairs filled and three council meetings held.
Elizabeth Alice Eveland 11 died of polio in Baltimore City Hospital after a Tuesday onset. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs William H Eveland of Hillsboro and sister to 14-year-old William Paul. Funeral at St Benedicts Ridgely with burial Holy Cross Cemetery. Rosary Friday at 8 p m. This is Caroline County's third polio case this year.
Charles F. Theis, 27, once a Salisbury musician and insurance man, remains paralyzed from the neck down and bedridden at Passwater Convalescent Home in Cambridge. He uses a chest respirator part time, can lift his head slightly and write a little, and plans to begin therapy soon after months of treatment across several hospitals.
Descendants of Robert and Josephine Maloney met for their third annual reunion at Camp Todd near Williston on Sunday August 28. Attendees came from Pennsylvania Delaware and Maryland. Officers elected include Mrs Margaret Baynard president and Miss Ann Maloney treasurer. A poem Reunions was read and ice cream and cake served during refreshments.
Congressman Frank Thompson Jr. of New Jersey and Congressman Richard E. Lankford of Maryland will speak at the Young Democratic Clubs of Maryland state convention in Ocean City. Thompson, a Navy veteran and first-term representative, will headline the banquet and sessions September 9 10 at Lagoon Restaurant with about 200 attendees.
Ridgely Lions Club announces a 1 pm Labor Day event at Community Park Ridgely featuring Jacque Wells of WCBM as announcer for kids games and Lions presidents race. Lloyd Simpkins will deliver the Charge to the Knights at 2 pm. Buckshot the firemen’s pony to be auctioned after a cake sale with 25 cakes auctioned.

Town chairmen for the Boy Scout annual finance drive met Monday night at the Brick Hotel in Denton with Campaign Vice-Chairman Harry R. Hughes presiding. District Chairman John Clarence North announced a district goal of 11300 and a council budget of 179000 for Del Mar Va Council.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7937 begins its fall dance season on Saturday September 10 at the post home on the Denton Greensboro Road. Top Hatters provide music for the 9 p m event with plans for dances each alternate Saturday. A new dance floor is being installed for the opening affair.
Norman Irwin reported a burglary at the Irwin Feed Company dated last week. The east window was found open on Tuesday after a Monday night or early Tuesday break in. Thieves took hog feed, paints, an electric fence charger, and bolts while Cpl. Koste led the investigation.
Albert Galle tin Gullett published the first issue of the Denton Journal marking its 110th anniversary this week.
All Caroline County teachers meet at Caroline High School in Denton on Friday to prepare for the September 6 opening. Superintendent W Stewart Fitzgerald and Board VP E W Nuttle speak, with Dr George H Reavis delivering the principal address and sharing curriculum expertise.
The tenth annual King descendants reunion at Camp Mardela near Denton elected Joseph Nies of Adamstown as president and Hilton Reber of Lebanon as vice president. Mrs. Frank Jennison of Washington was named secretary and treasurer. Funds were divided to Camp Mardela, David King in Washington, and Merle Crouse for seminary studies in Chicago. Helen Ziegler pinned an orchid on 80 year old Queen of the Kings A G Reber of Lebanon.
The Peninsula Girl Scout Council plans to open an Equipment Agency in Dover operated by Emmanuel's Store. Article items such as uniforms and handbooks will be sold there. An opening ceremony is set for 11 a.m. Saturday September 10 with ribbon cutting by local officials and a gift for each uniformed Girl Scout attendee.
The letter requests ongoing donations for flood disaster relief across several towns. Local Red Cross chapters accept contributions via named residents or at the Denton Maryland office, with funds also gathered in person at the Law Building in Denton.
A Junior First Aid Course is being organized with instruction by Mr. William Wirts. Sponsored by the Girl Scouts under Mrs. Walter Kerslake, it welcomes girls in 7th 8th and 9th grades from any group. The first meeting is at Mrs. Kerslake’s home on Thursday September 8 at 7 30 p m.
