Traffic Fatalities Down 35 Percent in Maryland
Maryland reports 1 881 traffic accidents in September with 39 deaths and 731 injuries. Baltimore City had 949 accidents with 1% deaths and 428 injured. counties totaled 482 accidents with 26 deaths and 303 injuries. State fatalities drop 35 percent from a year ago. Calvert County had a perfect month with no collisions, deaths, or injuries. This week was wet with a mean temperature about 2 degrees above normal. The days were mild, except two were cold. There were three days with light rain and one day with heavy rain. Soil wetness delayed late potato digging in western Maryland and sowing grains. Crops and pastures grew well. pastures are good to excellent. Corn cutting is advancing. 95 percent at Joppa. Grains, barley, rye, and wheat show good stands across several counties. Harvests of apples and pears resumed or finished in several towns. Western Maryland shows fine yields. Soy beans are being threshed at Hurlock when weather allows. Overall, the country looks fine with markets steady for greens and root crops.
