A series of eight free lectures on mental health begins Tuesday November 1 at 8:00 PM at Caroline High School Den ton. Dr Edward Davens chief of the Bureau of Material and Child Hygiene will preside. He collaborates with Johns Hopkins experts on a community mental health clinic study. Parents in Caroline County are invited to attend.

A statewide gathering of Maryland physicians' wives will meet in Baltimore November 15 to finalize the auxiliary. Dr Toulson named the committee chair to draft plans at a Chestertown meeting October 20, with Mrs George Yeager serving as secretary.

Richard Dykes of Salisbury was elected president at an Eastern Shore Basketball League meeting and authorized to appoint a vice president and secretary treasurer. He previously chaired the 1947-48 league, which formed an eight team loop and may grow to nine pending Cambridge’s decision. Three new applications were accepted from the Denton Bobcats, Federalsburg Lions, and Rehoboth Lions as others remain.

Retired Educator Outlines Evolution of Top School Jobs

Adult Education Courses Offered in Caroline County
The Office of the Superintendent announces winter adult education across six county high schools funded mainly by the State Department of Education. Courses run about twenty four meetings, two nights weekly, with fees for light heat and janitor services. Open to anyone 16 or older not in day school, enrollment requires at least twenty per class and contact local principal before November 9 to plan early start.

The USO, revived at the President's request and deemed vital to national security, now runs 18 overseas facilities, bringing total programs to 170. Maryland chair C Markland Kelly notes expansions include Alaska, Canal Zone, France, Germany, Italy, Greece, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, Okinawa, with Shanghai and Tsingtao closures. If funds allow, 242 operations are planned by year end 1950 and Maryland reports 23,000 servicemen, mostly under 21, abroad.
