Mr. George L. Griffith, one of Caroline County’s oldest citizens, celebrated his ninety fifth birthday on Thursday Oct 20 1949. He lives in Denton with daughter Mrs Olaf Smith and has two sons Lacy Griffith and W Ernest Griffith, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. He married Fannie Walls in youth. she died about twenty one years ago. Active for his age, he walks daily and attends Pilgrim Holiness Church most Sundays as friends and relatives offered greetings this week.

Trap Shooting Contest Opens Fund Drive for Wildlife
A wildlife fundraiser in Caroline County opens Sunday at 1 PM with a trap and dead mark contest near Greensboro Memorial Park. Mike Harrison, president of Upper Choptank Wildlife Protective Association, appointed Oren Lewis as contest chair. The drive aims to stock fields with rabbits quail raccoons and other wildlife, with contests held every other Sunday weather permitting.

Veterans Administration announced no National Service Life Insurance dividend checks will be mailed before January 1950. Assistant Administrator Harold W. Breining said reports of pre Christmas mailings are unfounded and that checks will start around mid January. A countywide frozen food meeting will be held in the Caroling High School Auditorium on Tuesday night November 1 at 8 00 P M. The event shows proper methods of cutting wrapping beef and pork and maximizing home freezers. It highlights the use of local frozen food lockers in Denton and Federalsburg and the advantages of sample menus and quick freezing for home meals. Man Held In Axe Attack At Kent Narrows
John Keene, a colored oyster shucker at Kent Narrows, will be held for the November Queen Annes County grand jury on a charge of assault with intent to kill. He allegedly struck 83 year old produce seller Daniel I. Patchett in the head with an axe Saturday morning. Patchett was rushed to Easton Hospital and is reported out of danger. Keene was arrested by Trooper W. H. Massey two hours later and jailed. A preliminary hearing occurred before Magistrate Mitchell. robbery is said to have motivated the attack. Patchett is a longtime farmer near Preston and well known in Denton and Kent Island for selling produce.

Boy Scout Dinner Held at Armory in Denton
A Tuesday night dinner for Scouts moved from Camp Todd due to weather was served in the Armory basement. Attendees included Rotary, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Brownies, Cubs, and leaders. Girl Scouts and leaders prepared the meal funded by the Denton Rotary Club. A scouting progress report and troop leadership duties were explained, and Scout Troop 165 received its charter.
