Review Of Traffic Deaths On Maryland Highways
The Maryland State Police report eleven highway deaths for the week ending October 21, with five drivers and three pedestrians killed. Alcohol affected three deaths, speed four, and driver error eight. Over fifteen weeks there were 191 deaths. alcohol 47 percent, speed 48.9 percent, driver error 81 percent. Authorities urge motorists to check and replace faulty lights as Standard Time ends October 28.

Federalsburg Court Disposes Of Several Local Cases
On October 22 Magistrate John F. Tilghman in Federalsburg heard five cases. Joe Louis Bolden and Nathan Garfield, both of Federalsburg, each paid 50 for assaulting a police officer. Ida Mae Bolden paid 100 for disobedience and 10 for speeding. Officer Joseph Koski testified he was pushed. In Federalsburg that night Paul V. Stafford of Dover Air Force Base was fined 10 for speeding, and Claud Simms of Federalsburg was held for the Grand Jury on bastardy charges. Before Magistrate Wright in theft cases Charles Slaughter paid 95 with a suspended six month sentence, Allen Coffey paid 70 with six months. Paul W. Johnson was fined 50 for defrauding the unemployment board, while John Edward Breeding of Hickman had 20 suspended for fireworks possession and discharge without a license.

Amendment to the 1962 act makes wheat acreages of 15 or less exempt from 1963 marketing quotas. The change affects only the 1963 crop, not farms with more than 15 acres. National VFW Chief In Maryland Visit Oct 31
Byron B. Gentry, commander in chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, will visit Maryland at 8 p.m. Wednesday October 31 to be saluted by 165 Maryland VFW officials, district commanders and post leaders at Carling Brewing Co. plant Exit 9 Baltimore Beltway. State Trooper Activity During The Past Week
The State Police report for the past week lists several arrests and incidents in Caroline and surrounding counties. Nathan Garfield of Federalsburg was fined after assaulting Officer Joseph Koski. Ida Mae Bolden of Federalsburg was fined for resisting arrest. Henry Kemp of Goldsboro was arrested for drunkenness near Hillsboro. In Denton, Charles Lawrence Slaughter and Allen Coffey received fines and suspended sentences for larcenies. Joseph Hutson of Greensboro was fined for larcenies. An Oct. 19 crash near Denton overturned an unmarked county road vehicle, with Sheila Stockley charged with reckless driving. A Seaford man and a Denton woman, Hazel Baynard and Reese Purnell, were found dead in a parked car near Andersontown. medical examiner cited asphyxiation but police deem the deaths likely accidental. The official time to set clocks back one hour is 2 a.m. Sunday, October 28.
