Girl Scouts Plant Trees at Camp Todd in 1959

On Sunday November 1 1959 at 230 pm Girl Scouts will hold the First Tree Planting Day at Camp Todd near Denton. Troops bring small shade trees. markers with troop or patrol names provided. Boy Scout troop from Seaford helps under Paul S Nicholasen chairing Camp Maintenance. Robbie Austin Roberts guest of honor and to plant the first tree with Brownie Troop 233.

Penny collecting Halloween UNICEF event in churches

Children wear UNICEF tags and seek pennies for aid worldwide. Donations fund milk in India and vaccines and care in Chile and Nigeria. The UNICEF Halloween party in the Church of the Brethren, with First and Grace Methodist Churches, occurs at 6 30 p m October 30 with a costume judging and a planning committee led by Mrs Earl Crouse and others.

Harvest Festival At Denton School Today

Harvest Festival at Denton School today features afternoon games and a chicken supper at a small price, with ten cent servings on other foods. A Hallowe en Dance in the evening will crown the Harvest King and Queen, plus prizes for best dressed and dance contests. all welcome to attend and enjoy.

Fire Destroys Old Cannery in Ridgely Sunday Morning

A Ridge ly Canning Company building in Ridgely owned by Spence Phelps and managed by L H Higgins burned Sunday morning. Fire crews from Ridgely Greensboro and Denton contained the blaze. total loss estimated above 70 000 with 40 000 in canned goods. Ladies Auxiliary served coffee at scenes. Claude Towers led Ridgely Fire Co as chief.

Caroline Conservation And Farm Show Held Last Weekend

Caroline County hosted the Conservation and Farm Products Show featuring a large prize pumpkin with 566 seeds and a closest guess of 568 by Miss Georganne Long of Denton who wins $10. The Fashion Frolics by the Caroline Council of Homemakers Clubs drew a full house, with a Square Dance for all ages. Winners across departments A to K include numerous individuals in vegetables, food preservation, clothing, crafts, baked goods, flowers, art, poultry, grains and hay, and soil judging, with many named participants and groups such as Bright Star 4-H Club and Caroline County 4-H Council.

Rich Found Not Guilty in Caroline County Trial

Last Wednesday Kathleen Madora Rich was found not guilty of first degree murder after under an hour of jury deliberation. James Owen Knotts prosecuted. W Hyland Van Sant defended. Four counts included first and second degree murder manslaughter and assault.

Denton to Sponsor Hallowe'en Party on Oct 31

Denton plans a community Halloween event on Saturday October 31 with a parade starting at 7 p.m. from the fire hall led by the North Carolina High School Band, ending at the Denton School basketball court. Prizes will be awarded in four costume classes, plus refreshments. The Denton Chamber of Commerce and the Denton Volunteer Fire Co. organize this community gathering chaired by Dr. Herbert S. Martin.

Ridgely Brethren To Hold Their 75th Anniversary

Ridgely Church of the Brethren plans an all day 75th anniversary program chaired by Mrs. Amanda E. Fisher of Denton. Rev. Levi K. Ziegler will give the morning message “Hither And Thence.” An afternoon of remembrances features former ministers and lay workers, with Rev. and Mrs. Joseph Rittenhouse among them. A pageant titled The Call closes the event at 7:30 p.m. Dinner and supper will be served at the town firehouse. The congregation began Aug 2 1884 with 12 men and 10 women, built Bethel House in 1887, Boonesboro Church completed 1890, and the present Ridgely church was erected Oct 21 1909.
