Mental Hygiene Unit Formed In Caroline County

The Caroline County Chapter of the Mental Hygiene Society of Maryland was organized at Denton to plan a fund drive. Officers include James P. Hill president and Sherman T. Griffith vice president. district chairmen were named for five areas with three more to be added. The appeal seeks $250000 statewide, with nearly $100000 raised so far, and aims to place a full time psychiatrist on the Eastern Shore. Dr. Edwin Riley notes 102 county patients have used the Easton clinic.

Community Club To Hear Senator Redden

The Community Club announces an October 17 meeting at the Club House featuring Senator Layman J. Redden speaking on the Legislature. Cars Collide In Ridgely With Minor Damage

In Ridgely Earl Holsinger and Joseph H Harrington collided as Harrington left Ridgely toward Log Cabin while Holsinger pulled from the Ridgely Supply Co parking lot. Holsinger was charged with failure to grant right of way. Damage estimated at $100, limited to the right front of both cars.

Girl Scout Council Holds First Meeting in Delaware Maryland

The Peninsula Girl Scout Council held its first regular meeting on October 9 at president Mrs. K T Everngams home in Denton. Officers named include Chas Smith vice president Puncke treasurer Sammons secretary and a large slate of directors and chairmen. Plans for Charter Night October 29 include a dinner at Seaford school cafeteria and an all adult Scout attendance urging area members and spouses to attend.

S Scott Beck Killed In Early Morning Crash

Funeral services for S Scott Beck Jr 38 Chestertown banker and attorney and Democratic figure were held at Emmanuel Episcopal Chestertown. He died when his car left Quaker Neck road south of Chestertown struck a tree and caught fire. He served as president of Chester Town Bank of Maryland since 1948 and was counsel to Kent County Commissioners. He had run for Congress and previously served as Comptroller of Customs. He served in World War II in multiple theaters and held rank of lieutenant commander at discharge.

Greensboro Hallowe'en Celebration Planned by Lions Club

The Greensboro Lions Club and local businessmen announce a Halloween celebration on October 31 with more than twenty five cash prizes. Events include an 8 p m parade a pie eating contest window painting and a street dance with Caroline Rangers providing music refreshments and costume prizes for all ages. Civil Defense Volunteers To Meet Monday Evening

Edward D. Sparks, Caroline County Civil Defense Director, calls a meeting of all volunteers for the Denton Carter Ave Observation Post project. The session on Monday October 20 at 8 30 p m will be at the Civil Defense Office in the Law Building with Major Benjamin F Vaughn in attendance. Local groups including the American Legion Lions Club and Rotary Club have pledged free labor polished toward the project.

Mrs Roy Slaughter, chair of the Tuberculosis Survey Committee, urges continued use of modern medical methods to combat tuberculosis. She says the disease remains widespread and that universal chest X-rays are the first step toward eliminating it, stressing personal testing to ensure individuals do not have the illness.

Gala Hallowe'en Celebration In Denton 31st

Hallowe'en in Denton will be a gala occasion with masqueraders paraders music and marching. The Chamber of Commerce and Denton Volunteer Fire Co will run the event at the Armory starting 7 PM with a parade from the Fire House to the Armory. Firemen's Supper And Theatre Party October 23

The Denton Volunteer Fire Co hosts a charity event at the Denton Armory on Thursday evening October 23 starting at 5 pm. Adults pay 1.25 and children under 12 pay 75 cents for a full meal. After dining, the Den tonia Theatre presents the technicolor film I Dream of Jeanie about folk composer Stephen Foster. A food sale follows at 9 pm for late supporters.

Fire damages attic in North Carolina farm home near Greensboro

A blaze of undetermined origin wrecked the attic of the Isaac Quillen farm home near Irvin's Chapel Saturday night. The Greensboro and Goldsboro volunteer firemen saved the house with 1500 gallons of water. The property, now owned by Ways on A Seibel of West River Maryland, suffered water damage to second floor contents while first floor furniture was removed.
